Information Systems & Visibility

Each city public transport stops has essential information, such as timetables, fare details and exclusion notices printed inside a stop shelter or on a pole marking the front of the stop.

Access to the Station

  • Most bus stops are integrated into footways, so their step-free access depends on the accessibility of the footway itself. Stops are accessible for passengers with reduced mobility, free of barriers or obstacles. In most cases, the stop is at the same level as the pedestrian route.

Enhanced Information Systems & Visibility

Alongside printed information, many stops are additionally equipped with electronic information displays. These displays feature LED technology with excellent visibility and durability in outdoor conditions. With these displays, passengers are able to see real-time information about next departures, plus other up-to-date information directly from the dispatching centre of the city public transport operator. The quality and extent of the provided information is being continually improved and refined. Currently, almost 300 platforms are fitted with LED displays, meaning passengers have access to real-time information at many locations throughout the city. The plan is to double this number in the coming years so that all busy stops are equipped with this technology.

Facilities at the Stops

Benches are provided as part of shelters, with seat heights ranging from 450 mm to 550 mm. Street furniture at stops and on footways is installed in line with standards for minimum clear passage widths, taking into account the movement of wheelchair users. At the stops, visibility is good from a seated position, allowing passengers to see approaching vehicles and timetables displayed in information cases with route and travel details.

Boarding assistance

In situations where the height difference between the vehicle and platform do not allow easy boarding or alighting for wheelchair users, the driver will assist them by lowering a ramp.

Colour-Coded Lines

On all platforms and vehicles' information displays, select lines are colour-coded so that they are more easily rememberable and recognisable from further distances. Trolleybus lines, bus lines serving important terminuses and tram lines especially have a distinctive colour assigned to them. This will be visible on modern information displays, such as interior screens, exterior displays, departure displays at stops and online platforms.

Designated Accessible Spaces in Vehicles

All city public transport buses and trolleybuses and many of the trams in Bratislava are low-floor and provide at least one wheelchair-dedicated space located near the front of the vehicle. These spaces are marked with the international wheelchair symbol and contrasting floor markings to improve visibility. Each designated area includes horizontal and vertical support rails and a backrest panel to enhance safety and comfort. A button for signalling the driver is always available in a reachable location near the dedicated space. All vehicles are fitted with priority seats located in low-floor sections. These seats provide additional space for manoeuvring and they are clearly identified with pictograms and a distinctive colour.
